Santa's Trash Cookies
A chewy, loaded cookie with chocolate chips, peanut butter, Oreo crunch, and flaky salt.
Ingredients
Dry ingredients
- 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
Wet ingredients
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Mix-ins
- ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ¾ cup peanut butter chips or chopped peanut butter cups
- ¾ cup Oreo cookies, roughly chopped (about 6–8 Oreos)
Topping
- Flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and kosher salt in a medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and glossy. Whisk in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, peanut butter chips or cups, and chopped Oreos.
- Cover and refrigerate the dough for 30–60 minutes.
- Heat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop the dough into 2½–3 tablespoon portions. Roll them lightly into balls and place them 2½–3 inches apart on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers still look slightly underdone.
- Immediately sprinkle the cookies with flaky sea salt. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.
Notes
- The cookies firm up as they cool but stay chewy inside.
- For extra crunch and presentation, press a few Oreo pieces or chips into the tops before baking.
