Simple Vanilla Ice Cream

A straightforward churned vanilla ice cream with a rich milk-and-cream base.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 1½ tablespoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Whisk the milk, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl until the sugar dissolves. Stir in the cream and vanilla.
  2. Cover and refrigerate the base for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  3. Churn in the ice-cream maker until thickened and creamy.
  4. Serve soft, or transfer to an airtight container and freeze for about 2 hours for a firmer texture. Let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • The booklet suggests adding chopped candy or sprinkles near the end of churning.
