French Dip

Slow-cooked beef piled onto toasted rolls with cheese and au jus.

Ingredients

  • 3–4 lb chuck or rump roast
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Thyme
  • Bay leaf
  • French rolls
  • Provolone or Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Sear the beef.
  2. Add the beef, onion, garlic, broth, Worcestershire, thyme, and bay leaf to a slow cooker.
  3. Cook for 6–8 hours on low or 4–5 hours on high.
  4. Shred the beef and strain the cooking liquid for au jus.
  5. Toast the rolls, then fill them with beef and provolone or Swiss.
  6. Serve with the au jus for dipping.

Notes

  • Recovered from the August 11, 2025 history.
  • Oven option: cook at 325°F for about 1½–2 hours.
  • Quantities beyond the roast and broth were not recoverable.
